John was the youngest of three children. he was brought up in Birstall, west Yorkshire and attended schools both there and in Healey. He met his wife Beryl at a dance at Dewsbury Town Hall on August 2nd 1958. They were married a little over three years later on October 28th 1961 at Liversedge Parish Church.
